Frequently Asked Questions?

At TEK, we believe that all children should have access to a broad and balanced curriculum which enables them to acquire the appropriate skills to develop fully their academic potential, as well as developing their personal and social values in preparation for adult life. The kindergarten follows its own wide-ranging academic curriculum tailored to the needs of its children. The kindergarten uses the EYFS Frameworks for Literacy and Mathematics and includes a wide range of learning experiences appropriate for the ages, abilities and needs of the children. The kindergarten will take all reasonably practicable measures to fulfill the requirements of mild special educational needs and/or disabilities.

The curriculum is balanced and broadly based, and promotes the moral, cultural, mental and physical development of our children and of society, and prepares our children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. All children are expected to acquire skills in speaking and listening, reading, writing, numeracy and information.  In the event where children have English as an additional language and needs specialist teaching to develop appropriate fluency, parents will be guided and supported in finding such support outside school, as well as being advised to the support the school can provide.

TEK provides full time supervised education for children between the ages of 3 years-5 years and each level, prepares children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of the next stage of their education and lives.

The purpose of this policy is:

  • To ensure a safe and healthy environment for staff, children, parents and visitors to TEK (The English Kindergarten).
  • To ensure allocated responsibilities are adhered to.
  • To ensure all staff and parents understand their personal responsibilities.

General Health Procedures

The nurse is responsible of ensuring the general Health and safety measures among the school.

However, each class teacher has individual responsibility for the health and safety of children allocated to their class. However all staff must co-operate fully in implementing health and safety initiatives and do everything possible to make sure injuries do not occur to themselves or others especially: Staff never leave children unattended and when moving around there must be 2 staff members.

  • Ensuring the kindergarten health and safety rules and procedures are adhered to and monitored.
  • Identifying any risks and either eliminating or reporting them to the manager.
  • Ensuring all children’s activities are age appropriate and safe, including tools or materials used.
  • Not doing anything to endanger their own health and safety or that of others.
  • Informing the manager of any personal health issues which may affect working procedures.
  • Recording accidents in the Accident Books and reporting accidents to the management.
  • Bags and water Bottles: Due to the current situation of COVID 19, it is preferable if children can come to school with their lunch box/bags and water bottle only. Big bags are not really necessary. Please remember to write your child’s name clearly on the lunch box/bags and the water bottle.
  • Healthy Snacks: Please ensure that your child has a healthy snack packed for school, no sweets or chocolate. We would be grateful if you could ensure no nuts, or anything containing nuts, is brought into the kindergarten.  During the summer months, please put an ice pack in their snack bag.
  • Hygiene measures: The school is providing hand sanitizers for all classes/children in order to keep their hands and surroundings disinfected. All materials (toys, educational supports, utensils,…) will be cleaned directly after usage.

The English Kindergarten does not provide meals to the students, parents are supposed to provide their kids with their meals and follow the food and nutrition policy applied at the kindergarten.

TEK will support families toward healthy food choices for their children through:

  • reinforcing that fruits and vegetables are the “snack” food to be consumed while attending kindergarten.
  • reinforcing that commercial “snack” food are not recommended at kindergarten
  • encouraging families to provide only recommended lunch box items.
  • reinforcing that water is the preferred drink for pre-school children.

This policy recognizes key food safety considerations for kindergartens as identified by the Department of Human Services, Food Safety Victoria Unit

  • Children with Special Dietary Needs

TEK recognises that individual children may require special consideration in food requirements due to:

  • food allergy and intolerance
  • specific cultural requirements
  • disabilities and medical conditions

This policy will support the inclusion of all children and ensure duty of care in relation to snacks where special consideration is required regarding suitability of food type and type and texture to accommodate special need however parents are liable to provide all snacks for their children.

At The English Kindergarten, we believe that each child is a valued individual, and has the right to a balanced curriculum.

Unfortunately, we are not equipped to receive children with special needs. However, if the child is facing minor learning difficulties such as light dyslexia, light speech delay, he/she will be accepted. In this case, the parents will be asked present all the needed support to help their child and offer for him/her all the needed extra assistance from specialists. (Speech therapy, Occupational or behavioral therapy…).
